Nurudeen Amadu: King Faisal must beef up existing squad

Written by ...

After escaping relegation last season by a whisker, Kumasi King Faisal looked like have come good this season with some breathtaking results.

The “Insha Allah” Boys needed just a draw to retain their top flight status and they managed to secure the feat after a 1-1 draw in the last day of the 2020/21 league games against now relegated Liberty Professionals.

King Faisal started this season with a blistering form – grabbing 13 points and losing four from their opening six games. Their biggest and most memorable victory in the six games was a 3-2 win over city rivals, Asante Kotoko in week six at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Fast forward, King Faisal have lost their last four games much to the surprise of the Ghanaian football world judging from their initial firepower.

Head coach, Nurudeen Amadu spoke about the club’s recent poor run after their week 15 defeat to defending champions, Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium last Sunday.

“I think that they [Hearts of Oak] played well in the first half and in the second half we [King Faisal] came in strongly and we also had some few chances.

“I think that we lost but we were not disgraced and so we are hoping that we do well in our two matches that are left and in the second window we see whether we can beef up the team,” Nurudeen Amadu told StarTimes.

“A young club, we don’t have an all round team and those few players who have been playing, fatigue has set in but I don’t have good substitute and so we just have to manage them and then you see what happens.

“Because those that are on the reserve bench, they are not up to the task because many of them are young players we are nurturing so that come next year, they can also have their chance to feature.” Nurudeen Amadu added.

“These crop of players they cannot play the second round all alone, we need to beef up the team.” Nurudeen Amadu concluded.”

King Faisal have now dropped into 6th position with 23 points, same as Hearts of Oak and will host Premier League returnees, Real Tamale United at the Baba Yara Stadium in week 16 on Sunday, January 6.
