Mohammed Alhassan: “Playing alongside Sulley Muntari is refreshing”

Hearts of Oak deputy captain, Mohammed Alhassan says it is a delight to share the same pitch with former Black Stars midfielder, Sulley Muntari.

Muntari, a UEFA Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup winner with Inter Milan in 2010, signed a short term deal with Hearts of Oak until the end of the 2021/22 league season.

The 37-year-old marked his debut after coming on for left back, William Dankyi in their 1-0 loss to city rivals, Accra Great Olympics last Sunday.

Mohammed Alhassan, who could not keep a clean sheet alongside Robert Addo Sowah in central defence, was however left in ecstasy at seeing Sulley Muntari join the fray.

“It’s wonderful because looking at the players who are playing right now, most of us usually see him on Television and now our big brother is our teammate. “The feeling is so wonderful, it’s very wonderful.” Mohammed Alhassan added.

Asked about how Sulley Muntari felt following the defeat in his debut, Mohammed Alhassan said: “He was down but being there, he told us to put everything behind us. “Because when he came looking at our faces, he saw that everyone was down but he motivated us.

“He told us it’s not over, it’s a game, one game, we’ve lost, we should put everything behind us and focus on the next game.” Mohammed Alhassan concluded.

Hearts of Oak now have 23 points from 16 matches on 7th spot but are on an outstanding week seven fixture against rivals, Asante Kotoko on February 20.

Their next opponents are premier league returnees, Real Tamale United on Sunday, February 13 at the Aliu Mahama Stadium.
