The Black Stars of Ghana has been dealt a huge blow ahead of their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier in March.
Ghana will host the Super Eagles next month over two legs for a slot at the mundial in Qatar later this year. Ghana were at their worse moments at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
The four time African champions exited the tournament at the group stage with just a point from three group c games.
They lost their opener to North African giants, Morocco by 1-0 in the opening game before being held to a 1-1 by the Panthers of Gabon.
Their final group game was a moment they will quickly want to forget after they lost 3-2 to tournament debutants, Comoros.
The exit was their first time since the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations held in Egypt. The Black Stars have made three successive FIFA World Cups – first edition was in Germany 2006 where they finished the tournament in round 16.
Ghana put up an improved performance in their next appearance in South Africa in 2010 where they claimed a quarter finals after losing on penalty shootouts to Uruguay.
The third appearance however was a disaster on its own in Brazil 20214 where they exited the group stage with just a single point.
They lost their opening game to the United States and their third game to Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal. In between the two defeats was a 2-2 draw against Germany which was their only point of the tournament.
