A subsidiary of the McDan Group of Companies, Electrochem Ghana Limited at Ada in the Greater Accra Region have demonstrated its commitment by embarking on a massive Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) drive in its area of operations.

Notable among the facilities and projects were the provision of water, road construction, scholarship for bright but needy youth.

The rest are 20 seater toilets, skills training for youth with free start-up, support for entrepreneurship accompanied with interest-free loan, healthcare facilities, schools among others.

Interestingly, the community have witnessed also the construction of an Olympic size state of the art sports village with scores of cutting edge facilities at Sege, a suburb of Ada.

This came to light when the media embarked on a familiarization tour to have first-hand information on the operations of the company on the Songor salt project.

Speaking to the media shortly after the tour, the Lead Consultant of the Company, Dzigbordi Kwaku-Dosoo said the company have invested a whopping $51 million in the project ever since it was abandoned for the past 40 years.

The Lead Consultant disclosed that for the years that the project site was neglected, the community turned it into a dumping ground with all kinds of liquid and solid waste.

But was quick to say, with the prudent measures and structures put in place by the company, it was transformed through massive dredging and distillation with earth moving equipments as 58 of the project pans were brought back to effective and efficient use by management and site engineers.

According to her, the mining concession covers close to 41,000 acres of land and the largest in the West Africa sub-region and explained further that the company have a workforce of over 2,000 staff enjoying a good conditions of service and other juicy incentives.

“Songor lagoon salt from research have proven to be the finest in the world as a result of its strategic location which lies below the sea level since it requires all the necessary natural materials to produce unique salt for human and commercial purposes”, she stressed.

She further added that the catchment area have been declared as a Ramser site by UNESCO due to its biosphere reserves.

According to her, the Songor salt project will go global in earnest as Ghana will be the hub of the world’s finest salt in the mining space as white gold.

For her part, the Divisional Queen of Adibiawe, Naana Adiki Manyeyo Adi I expressed her profound gratitude to the Chiefs and people of Ada for their unflinching support towards the project.

Also for embracing the initial construction geared towards as an alternative livelihoods for the community before the company goes into full scale production.

She also commended the company’s frantic effort in engaging all the 35 communities under Ada’s jurisdiction for their fervent cooperation during the community engagement with the management of Electrochem where the company have performed creditably to the socio-economic development of Ada and its environs.
