Kobby Mensah: Karela United coach reveals recent rise in club form

Under the watch of young coach, Bismark Kobby Mensah, the Anyinase based club collected just six points from seven opening matches.

Mensah, a former Ghana U-17 striker, however steered the “Pride of the West” to seven games without a defeat to close the first round of the season on a high.

The former head coach of second tier side, Samartex explains the sudden revival.

“For Ghana, to be strong in the league, first of all you have to be strong at home. “If you look at Karela’s previous records even in the lower division, they have always been strong at home.

“It was only last season under coach [Evans] Adotey that Kotoko beat them 2-0 or something. “If not Karela had not lost here for a longer time.

“The most important thing is to win more matches at home going into the second round so we will be in a respectable position at the end of the league.” Bismark Kobby Mensah told Nzema fm.

Karela United out of the seven games, recorded two home and two away wins , a home draw and 1-1 apiece against Great Olympics and Real Tamale United away.

Raking home 15 points from a possible 21 in their last seven games, leaves them level on 25 points in 7th with defending champions, Hearts of Oak after the first round of games.

They will be away to two time champions, Aduana Stars on Sunday, February 27 for their second round opener at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park.

The first round ended 1-1 between the two sides at the Crosby Awuah Memorial Park in Anyinase four months ago.
