Database is Critical to enhance Climate Empowerment

In efforts to ensure youth-led activities in response to climate change, Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the Natural Resource and Environmental Governance(NREG) sector has been engaged on how to report it’s activities and projects on Action for Climate Empowerment.

The one-day dialogue session was organised by the Convener of the Youth in Natural Resource and Environmental Governance Platform, Strategic Youth Network for Development (SYND) held at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) conference room  in Accra on Thursday, August 11, 2022.

And was in collaboration with the National Focal Person on Action for Climate Empowerment, Dr. Emmanuel Obeng Tachie.

Speaking at the dialogue session, the Project Lead for Climate Change, Miss Patience Agyeman indicated that, the session aimed at bringing  young people from different youth organizations in different regions to develop a template for Non- Governmental Organizations in Ghana to report on their activities and projects on Action for Climate Empowerment.

This she said is to also identify some entry points for youth participation in the Climate Vulnerable Forum.

To her, this exercise is of great importance in the quest to have accurate and specific organisations undertaking series of activities and projects geared towards Climate Empowerment of the community they operate especially young people.

Engaging representatives of these NGOs at the dialogue, she explained that, the dialogue is to help donors and other stakeholders to know the sector an organisation is working as well as the activities being embarked upon by the organisation(s).

To her, the template is to assist donors and stakeholders to have details of NGOs and CSOs operating in one of the sectors under Action for Climate Empowerment.

And also have the opportunity of getting the right details and contacts their activities,  visible for donors, stakeholders and colleagues to see what sector(s) or area(s) an NGO or CSO is involved to attain the results expected regarding to climate empowerment especially among young people.

Miss Patience Agyeman therefore urged the representatives of the NGOs at the one-day dialogue on Action for Climate Empowerment to continue engaging young people in their respective activities as they collectively work with government, donors and other stakeholders to attain the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

On his part, facilitating the session, the Project lead for Children for Climate Action, Jacob Sarfoh Danquah stressed the need to involve young people in issues relating to the environment hence climate change.

Furthermore, he explained that, collating of vital information is key in CSOs work, adding, this gives them a leverage to be visible and be seen in regards to its numerous activities and projects locally and internationally.

These activities and projects he asserted helps government, donors and relevant stakeholders in decision making and it’s implementation regarding to the environment, energy among other areas of keen interest as stated in the various goals of the SDGs.

To him, database of NGOs and CSOs is an integral part of the work and needs to be effectively done to help government, donors and relevant stakeholders to know and have access to NGOs and CSOs working in the various sectors in line with Climate empowerment and the SDGs.

Mr. Jacob Sarfoh Danquah used the occasion to urge the Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) present at the one-day dialogue to be more proactive and invoke more young people in it’s activities and they work tirelessly to ensure climate empowerment.

Some of the Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) represented at the one-day dialogue includes CORD-Ghana, Rab Energy, Youth NREG, Green Stewardship International, Afridat Ventures, GSMP, Biba Transformation,Social Youth Drive and G.S.I.

Present was the Executive Coordinator of the Strategic Youth Network for Development (SYND),  Chibeze Ezekiel and the National Focal Person on Action for Climate Empowerment, Dr. Emmanuel Obeng Tachie.
