Justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana, Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo has stated that harnessing good work ethics for higher productivity requires the multipronged approach needed to enhance the growth of an organization.
According to her, a vision and mission statement is not enough, adding goals in this regard is also not enough but effective communication, a culture of accepted regulation, and efficient use of technology are the driving force for higher productivity in an organization.
The Justice of the Supreme Court however proposed tools for consideration in a working environment such as effective communication, law, and regulation as well as technology saying without the said institutional ethical values applied, the institution will not work effectively.
Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Torkornoo was speaking at a public lecture organized by the Institute of Works, Employment and Society (IWES) under the auspices of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) on the topic, “Harnessing Good Work Ethics For Higher Productivity” at the Kofi Ohene-Konadu Auditorium (West Wing) in Accra.
According to her, the said tools play effective roles in harmonizing diverse expertise, goals and mindsets in the quest for a desired organisational vision and the achievement that comes along with higher rates of productivity.
“Transparency, clarity, engagement and collaboration are always critical values that must be harnessed to ensure productivity”, she said and indicated that “any chain is as strong as its weakest link”.
She added that effective communication increases understanding and understanding increases cooperation and collaboration, noting further that communication increases learning and learning increases capacity to achieve in all working environment.
“Efforts must be made in workplaces to produce clear records of how stakeholders expect the work place to be regulated for maximum productivity saying the more stakeholders own regulation, the easier it is for peer to peer reminder of best practices to be shared”, she said.
In an address, the Pro Vice Chancellor of UPSA, Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor expressed management gratitude to the Chief Justice for her insights on the topic of the lecture saying it expose participants to new and emerging trends on ethics and productivity at the work place.
He said the lecture have served as a reminder of the essential role that workers play in the success of every organisation and the society at large and have also brought a renewed sense of commitment to harness good work ethics for higher productivity.
