The Electoral Commission (EC) has convened an emergency meeting for the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) for Tuesday, April 09, 2024, at the Commission’s IPAC Room.

The meeting follows a petition sent to the Commission by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after raising concerns about certain developments at the EC’s outfit which they said had the potency of compromising the integrity of the December 07 elections.

According to the EC, among the matters to be discussed at the meeting include the missing BVDs, the upcoming voter registration exercise, and the Ejisu by-election among others.

Background

The leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) petitioned the Electoral Commission (EC) to call for an emergency Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting following some developments at the Commission’s outfit.

The NDC said it learned of some shortage of Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) at the EC, together with a component of Biometric Verification Registration kits made up of five (5) laptops that are missing.

A statement issued by the party and signed by its General Secretary, Franklin Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey on March 27, 2024, indicated that members and sympathizers of the party were worried since the development has the potency of compromising the integrity of the December 07 polls.

The NDC also noted that the EC was supposed to call for an IPAC meeting on March 27 but does not understand why the meeting didn’t come off. It, therefore called on the Commission to organize an emergency meeting to allay the fears of stakeholders on the missing equipment.
