Chieftaincy Dispute:Royal Jamong Family
Story By: Ishmael Barfi
The Royal Jamong Family of Bunkpurugu has expressed frustration and disappointment over the delay in resolving a decades-long chieftaincy dispute.
The family claims that the Bunkpurugu skin has been empty since 1986 when Taapang Lambon usurped the position with military support.
Despite numerous attempts to resolve the issue through the Northern Region House of Chiefs and the National House of Chiefs, the case remains pending.
The family alleges that Abuba, the current occupant of the skin, is an imposter and has been using political influence to delay the case.
At a press conference held in Accra on September 2nd 2024, the Royal Jamong Family has called on the National House of Chiefs to provide a new date for the final judgment hearing and to stop meddling by politicians.
They have also warned against bringing in external forces to intimidate them, citing intelligence reports of war criminals being brought into the area.
The family has appealed to the good people of Mampurugu to help sanitize the Nayiri’s Palace and to stand up against injustice. They have also called on esteemed chiefs and kings to stand up against unscrupulous politicians meddling in chieftaincy affairs.
The Royal Jamong Family remains committed to the rule of law and peace but has warned that their patience has run out. They demand justice and a conclusion to the case by the end of October 2024.
