Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Adukwei Mensa, has asked stakeholders in the upcoming elections to provide a credible voters’ register in December 2024.
She says the Commission has a track record of providing credible elections and has asked the political parties and the public to trust its outfit to provide a credible poll.
At an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held in Accra Tuesday, October 01, 2024, the EC Chair noted that the register is still being pruned to rid it of irregularities to ensure the final document is robust.
According to her, the errors detected in the register, particularly by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), is typical of any registration and measures are in place to take them out of the roll.
“These errors are not unusual. All it takes are conscientious efforts to get them resolved,” she said.
She indicated further that steps have already been taken to address the issues in the register, stating that what is at its disposal currently is different from what was provided the political parties in August this year.
Jean Mensa highlighted that the discrepancies detected to date have been largely rectified. “The register that we have today is different from what was given to the political parties in August,” she reiterated, urging all stakeholders to trust the commission in its efforts.
“We have a track record of delivering free and fair elections. Our staff are well trained, and we have what it takes to produce a credible register,” Jean Mensa added.
She called on all political parties to trust the Commission ahead of the December polls.
