A former General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Nana Yaa Akyempem Jantuah, has said that the seat of the Vice President should also be declared vacant since Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has vacated his post.

She says the flag bearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) who is also the Vice President, has relegated his position, failing to perform the responsibilities required of him as the Vice President.

The former CPP Secretary, who was speaking on the petition before Parliament for the Speaker to declare some seats vacant, because occupants of them have either chosen to join another political party or want to contest as independent, indicated that the Vice President should have been included in the petition.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, according to her, has vacated his seat and cannot proffer any meaningful solution to the issue, the reason Akufo-Addo is soliciting ideas from opposition candidates to deal with the matter.

The Minority seeks to have the seats of Agona West MP Cynthia Morrison, Suhum MP Kwadwo Asante, and Amenfi Central MP Peter Yaw Kwakye Ackah declared vacant.

Members of the caucus also argue that the Fomena seat should be declared vacant following the Independent MP’s decision to contest the 2024 elections under the NPP’s banner.

Speaking on the BigIssue on TV3’s NewDay Thursday, October 17, 2024, Nana Yaa said the NPP’s refusal to accept the call for the constitution to take its course is an act of disrespect to Ghanaians since the constitution  is what holds the nation.

She said President Akufo-Addo is demanding from the opposition leader, John Dramani Mahama, to come out with his proposal for dealing with galamsey because the Vice President who is the NPP’s candidate does not have any verifiable solution to address the menace.

She says the former Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, should have added the Veep’s office to his petition to the Speaker on the declaration of some seats vacant.

“I want to tell NPP, this time round, you cannot use insult to get to power. You should give us verifiable things that you’re coming to do. You have not been able to tell us what you’ll do with galamsey. Your leader is the Vice President who has vacated his post. He is nowhere to be found. His seat is vacant. Hon. Haruna [Iddrisu], he should also add the seat of the Vice President. It should be declared vacant. Where is he?” she quizzed.
