The Managing Director of Ghana Water Ltd (GWL), Hon. Adam Mutawakilu, has inspected three water treatment facilities in the Western and Central Regions as part of efforts to assess their readiness for rehabilitation under a GH¢8.4 million project funded by the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).
The project, which follows the signing of a rehabilitation agreement between GoldBod and GWL, seeks to restore the Bonsa, Daboase and Sekyere-Hemang Water Supply Systems. The initiative is expected to improve water production, enhance operational efficiency and expand access to potable water for thousands of residents in the beneficiary communities.
The Managing Director’s working visit took him to the Bonsa Water Treatment Plant, which serves the Tarkwa Municipality; the Daboase Water Treatment Plant, which supplies the Takoradi Metropolis and surrounding communities; and the Sekyere-Hemang Water Treatment Plant in the Central Region.

The inspections provided Management with an opportunity to assess the operational conditions of the facilities and identify key challenges ahead of the commencement of the rehabilitation works.
At the Bonsa Water Treatment Plant, Hon. Mutawakilu inspected the persistent siltation at the raw water abstraction point, which remains one of the major challenges affecting water production. He also examined an improvised floating abstraction pump developed by engineers in the Western Region to sustain production.
The Managing Director commended the engineers for their innovation but stressed the need for a permanent engineering solution to address the challenge under the rehabilitation programme.
As part of the tour, Hon. Mutawakilu also held separate engagements with Management and staff of the Western and Central Regions to review operational performance and discuss measures to improve service delivery.

The discussions focused on regional Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), revenue mobilisation, billing and collection performance, meter reading, customer service, the reduction of Non-Revenue Water (NRW), staff accountability, supervision and the effective use of performance monitoring systems.
Regional Management presented reports on their operational performance, achievements, ongoing interventions and challenges. Staff also used the engagements to provide feedback and share practical suggestions aimed at improving operations.

Employees welcomed the Managing Director’s direct engagement, describing it as a morale booster that promotes open communication, strengthens teamwork and provides greater clarity on Management’s expectations.
Hon. Mutawakilu urged staff to remain committed to professionalism, innovation, teamwork and accountability, emphasising that every employee has a vital role to play in improving operational efficiency and delivering quality services to ther stressed that the success of the GoldBod-supported rehabilitation project must be complemented by a strong performance culture across the Company.

The tour forms part of Management’s broader commitment to strengthening engagement with employees, assessing operational realities on the ground and ensuring that the GH¢8.4 million GoldBod rehabilitation project delivers lasting improvements in water production, infrastructure resilience and reliable water supply to communities in the Western and Central Regions.
