Class Media Group founder Alhaji Seidu Agongo says Accra TV will prioritise accuracy, fairness and transparency as it joins the media group’s platforms.
Alhaji Seidu Agongo, founder of Class Media Group, has pledged to make credibility, accuracy and accountability central to the operations of Accra TV, describing public trust as the media organisation’s most valuable asset.
Speaking at the launch of Accra TV, Agongo said the station would serve as a platform for facts, dialogue and accountability, with a commitment to listening to audiences, providing reliable information and serving the public interest.
According to him, the launch goes beyond introducing a new television station, presenting it as an opportunity to reflect on the importance of trust in the media and society.
“Trust is the foundation of every successful relationship – from family through community to society,” he said, adding that trust enabled citizens to believe in leaders, employees to have confidence in employers and communities to maintain meaningful relationships.
Agongo observed that trust had come under increasing strain, with people questioning the credibility of information and the motives of institutions and leaders.
According to him, the challenge confronting society is not a shortage of information but the difficulty of determining what is credible, transparent and true.
He therefore stressed that the media has a critical responsibility to bridge the gap between institutions and citizens by presenting facts in ways the public could understand.
However, he cautioned that the media can only fulfil this role effectively if its work was grounded in public trust.
“Trust cannot be demanded. Indeed, trust gotten through demands is unsustainable. Rather, it must be earned,” he reiterated.
Accuracy and accountability at the centre
The Class Media Group founder identified accuracy, fairness, consistency and accountability as essential principles for earning and sustaining public confidence.
He urged media practitioners to verify information before publication, focus on informing rather than inflaming public sentiment, and correct errors when they occur.
“At Class Media Group, the umbrella body of Accra TV, our most valuable asset has not been our studios, cameras or transmitters. Our most valuable asset has been and will continue to be our credibility,” Agongo said.
He added that the true test of trust was how organisations behaved when transparency became difficult, rather than when circumstances were favourable.
Drawing on his experience in business and entrepreneurship, Agongo said the station’s commitment to credibility would be demonstrated through its conduct and the standards it maintained in its operations.
Accra TV joins Class Media Group
As Accra TV joins the Class Media Group, Agongo reassured stakeholders, particularly viewers, of the organisation’s commitment to providing a platform that listens to the public, informs responsibly and promotes accountability.
He said building public trust was essential not only to the success of media organisations but also to the wider development of society.
“When trust grows, societies prosper, businesses succeed, and democracy flourishes,” he said.
Agongo expressed gratitude to the staff and audience of Class Media Group for their support and dedication, which he said had helped sustain the organisation through challenging and favourable periods.
He called on stakeholders to work together to build a culture of trust, reiterating the group’s commitment to its vision and to Ghana.
