Businessman and National Democratic Congress (NDC) member Alfred Agbesi Woyome has declared his intention to contest for the party’s National Vice Chairmanship, pledging to strengthen grassroots structures, empower party members and expand opportunities for young people.
His nomination was filed on his behalf by former Deputy National Women’s Organiser of the NDC, Dr Catherine Deynu, who described him as a committed party financier and longstanding supporter with significant contributions to the party’s growth.
Speaking after filing the nomination, Dr Deynu said Mr Woyome’s experience, commitment and contributions positioned him to help build a stronger and more organised party.
She said his proposed agenda would prioritise strengthening constituency and regional structures, building the capacity of grassroots members and improving the party’s preparedness for future elections.
Dr Deynu highlighted what she described as Mr Woyome’s longstanding support for the NDC, particularly during its efforts to secure political power in 2008, as well as his assistance to party members and individuals across the country.
She cited his financial support for more than 2,000 tertiary students, sponsorship of over 1,500 people to travel to South Africa for a football event, and assistance to the Black Stars.
She also claimed that he had sponsored more than 450 people to undertake the Hajj pilgrimage, describing him as a father figure to many party members and supporters.
“He has done a lot for the party, and this is the time for him to be at the helm of affairs to ensure that our grassroots members are empowered and that those at the constituency level have their capacity built,” she said.
Beyond party organisation, Dr Deynu said Mr Woyome was committed to promoting sustainable employment opportunities for young people, adding that his leadership would bring fresh ideas to address their economic challenges.
She expressed confidence that his experience and ability to mobilise resources would help strengthen the party’s structures and sustain its electoral fortunes.
The NDC is scheduled to elect its national executives at its National Delegates Congress on Saturday, December 19, 2026, as part of its reorganisation ahead of the 2028 general elections.
