In light of the threats to the security of the state and its citizens, the governor has declared a state of emergency in the state.
Governor Umaru Bago has declared a state of emergency on thuggery in the state, a menace which has led to worrisome state of insecurity.
The Governor revealed he has ordered security agents to shoot at sight any act of thuggery while speaking at a Sallah Durba festival organised by the former governor of the state Babangida Aliyu on his farm in Minna.
“I declare a state of emergency on a shoot at sight on any thug found within the metropolis and within the state,” Bago said.
“We have zero tolerance for insecurity and thuggery. We have also closed the sites of those artisan miners causing this menace within the state. Anybody found there will be shot to death. Those that are sponsoring them will also be dealt with decisively.”
The order comes on the back of thuggery resurgence in the state which claimed the lives of two persons on Friday night at the state capital, reports Channels TV.
The annual Sallah Durbah traditional festival has been on suspension by the state for the past seven years owing to security concerns, a decree which has deprived residents of the joy of their favourite festival.
Yandaba, a violent gang in the state capital is said to be at the centre of the thuggery which claimed the lives of two which has led to the Governor declaring a state of emergency.
