The former President of the Republic of Ghana, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings is emphatically calling for the immediate reinstatement of Professor Mawutor Avoke as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba.

The call by the former President of Ghana, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings to the Minister for National Security, Mr. Albert Kan Dapaah, is as a result of numerous petitions recieved from the former Vice Chancellor, Professor Mawutor Avoke, who was dismissed by the previous University Council with five other staff for alleged financial mismanagement and embezzlement.

In a letter to the National Security Minister sighted by this news portal, www.thenewindependentonline.com, the former President acknowledged the investigations done by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over the allegations against the Professor and the five other staff.

However, he said, during the pendency of the investigations, the affected persons were dismissed by the previous Council of the University without waiting for the outcome of the investigations.

These actions, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings says, have created complex situation, leaving the exonerated Professor Avoke and the five staff still out of work.

Meanwhile, the current Vice Chancellor, Rev. Professor Anthony Afful Broni, who was said to have championed the removal of Professor Avoke, is also currently facing some court issues for similar allegations but still at post. It will be recalled that, Afful Broni took to his heels some months ago to escape being served with a court summons, following a motion that had been filed by Alexander Afenyo-Markin ESQ, counsel for and on behalf of the applicant, one Kweku Bondzie Sey.

According to the former President of the Republic, the refusal to reinstate Professor Avoke after being cleared of the alleged mismanagement and embezzlement signifies a clear injustice and noted that, the continued non-resolution of this matter is justice denied and untenable.

He said, he believes that, the National Security Minister, Mr. Albert Kan Dappah would ensure that justice prevails and the right thing is done to ensure that peace and calm return to the University of Education, Winneba.
