As part of the efforts been made to fight against and support the vulnerables to survive throughout the deadly virus called COVID-19 pandemic continues to surge, foundations, philanthropists and other individuals have taken urgent steps to support this worthy course by donating money and Personal Protective Equipments to hospitals and individuals .
Joining the millions of philanthropists and donors across the country is the King of the Igbo Community in Ghana as he feeds the less privileged and vulnerables in his community.
This hardship on these vulnerables became worse when the President of the Republic, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo placed a three seek lock down in two Regions as a result of the outbreak of novel, Coronavirus on March 29th, 2020 curb the spread of the virus.
To that effect, the King of Igbo community in Ghana, His Royal Majesty, Eze Dr. Jude Chukwedi Ihinetu and his wife Liberty Ihinetu as part of their widow might towards the COVID-19 fight has supported the needy in their community with food items like a 5kg bag of rice(s), Cooking Oil(s) and some bags of water.
Donating the items , Eze Jude pointed out that, one of the major effect of the lockdown is severe hunger especially among the less privileged in the society.
“The homeless, casual workers, head porters (Kayayei) as well as street beggars are those who suffered the most due to lack of money and food as a result of the lockdown which led to the shutdown of commercial businesses in these two affected regions”, he noted.
This, he stressed compelled him and his Royal Household to distribute food items to the needy in his neighborhood, East Legon, a suburb of Accra, adding that the distribution was done under the auspices of the Eze Igbo Ghana Foundation Feeding the Hungry Project.
According to him it is time for his fellow Philanthropists to show love to the needy.
He however indicated that, since the outbreak of novel, Coronavirus and the lock down, a lot of people do come to him for support and the best way he can do to help the masses was to distribute food to the needy people around him.
And promised that, the Foundation will keep supporting the less privilege in the society.
On her part, Madam Liberty Ihinetu, wife of Eze Jude Ihinetu acknowledged the importance for the Foundation to support the needy in difficult times such as the lockdown by distributing food in their small little way to the less privileged and vulnerables in the society.
According to her, it is prudent for the King to take care of his neighborhood before other communities “that is why we started with the community we live in” she noted.
