Former Asante Kotoko striker, Kwame Poku has described the national team’s defeat to Morocco in the 2021 AFCON as unfortunate.

The 21-year-old tasted first senior cap against South Africa at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg where Ghana held the Bafana Bafana to a 1-1 draw to qualify for the 2021 AFCON which is ongoing in Cameroon.

The Black Stars however made a false start in their opener after losing 1-0 to North African side, Morocco at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium on Monday. Anger striker, Soufiane Boufal shocked the four time African champions with an 82nd minute strike which eventually stood at the winner.

Poku, who left Kotoko for Algeria outfit, USM Alger in a four-and-a-half year deal, believes Ghana were unlucky against Morocco but remains confident they will come good in the second game on Friday against Gabon.

“The Black Stars did well when I watched the game. “The tempo of every first game is very high and I feel the performance was not bad.

“Just that we were not fortunate because we should have got a goal but unfortunately it did not happen. “But I believe that in our next game, we will be able to get goals.” Kwame Poku told Fish fm.

The Black Stars are chasing their first title since winning their last, four decades ago in Libya.

The closest they have come are two final place finishes – a 1-0 loss in Angola 2010 to seven time champions Egypt and five years later in Equatorial Guinea where neighbors, Ivory Coast beat them 8-9 on penalty shootouts.
