“Holding Hearts of Oak is a Morale Booster For Kotoko” – Prosper Narteh

Head coach of Asante Kotoko, Prosper Narteh Ogum has described their goalless draw against rivals, Hearts of Oak as a confident boosting result.

The league leaders were guests of Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium in a week seven outstanding clash that wound down the first round of the 2021/22 season.

A few, yet clear goal scoring chances were created by both sides with Gladson Awako, Kwadwo Obeng Junior and Sulley Muntari all coming close to finding the net for Hearts of Oak in the first half.

Kotoko could not make enough of Franck Etouga, Imoro Ibrahim, Dickson Afoakwa, Georges Mfegue and Richmond Lamptey’s opportunity in both halves which could changed the entire complexion of the game. Prosper Narteh said at pitch side with StarTimes:

“It was a wonderful performance from my side, we looked very compact, we played some good possession in the middle of the park, created a few chances we could have scored but then we couldn’t convert them.

“Coming on the road to come and play the manner we played I think it’s good for the boys, it’s good for the team and it’s good for team confidence,” Prosper Narteh Ogum told StarTimes.

“The chances came as I said earlier on but then we couldn’t convert. “Sometimes that’s how the game is, you get your chances you don’t convert them, sometimes you lose, sometimes too it ends in a stalemate.

“So even though we have been scoring two, three in every game, I think we had the chances but we couldn’t convert them so it’s ok.”

“I think we will step up our performance, where we have got to, if you look at the way they played, there is a lot of quality and talent in the players.

“So we are going to step up our training, we are going to step up the way we do things and I’m sure we will play better in the second round.

“We have another round of 17 matches to go so it’s not over, we need to stay focused, we don’t have to be complacent, we have to take it game by game and that’s what we’ve been doing from day one.” Prosper Narteh Ogum added.

Despite the barren score line, Asante Kotoko still sit comfortably on top of the league log with 37 points – seven better than second place Bechem United and 12 above rivals, Hearts of Oak.

They have won eleven matches, producing four draws and just two losses this season.
