Hearts of Oak dealt a big blow ahead of second round

Accra Hearts of Oak have been dealt a a very huge blow ahead of their second round opener and the President Cup.

The Phobians have not had good results as expected by the teeming fans of the club. Hearts of Oak won the treble last season at the expense of their sworn rivals, Asante Kotoko with 61 points at the end of the league season.

They participated in the 20212022 CAF Champions League but the journey was nothing good to write home about as they got eliminated at the second round playoffs.

Morocco giants, Wydad Athletic Club beat them 6-2 over two legs. The first leg ended 1-0 for Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium with the second leg ending 6-1 in Casablanca.

They dropped into the CAF Confederation Cup where they faced Algeria club, Jeunesse Sportive de Saoura over two legs.

They won the first leg 2-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium with the second leg leg producing a 4-0 loss in Béchar to peg the entire game at 4-2 on aggregate.

The Phobians have now gathered six points, seven draws and four losses this season after the first round of matches of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League.

They currently sit 7th on the Ghana Premier League table with 25 points and will open their second round campaign against Legon Cities FC.

They will however take on arch rivals, Asante Kotoko in the 2022 President Cup at the Accra Sports Sports Stadium.

The Phobians have however been dealt a big blow because their talisman, Gladson Awako will not be available for the first round of the second round.
