The 5th edition of Pruride has officially been launched to promote cycling among elite, amateur, and professionals in the cycling fraternity.
The cycling event organized by Prudential Life Insurance Ghana launched at the the International Conference Center during the AMY Africa Expo on Friday, marks a significant event in the company’s 10th-anniversary celebrations.
The cycling event scheduled for Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Black Star Square, this year’s cycling event is expected to attract over 500 participants across elite, amateur, and professional categories.
Speaking at the official launch, the Chief Operations Officer at Prudential Life Insurance Mr. Peter Adjei highlighted the event’s consistent success, attributing it to the support from various stakeholders including the Ghana Sports Authority, the Ghana Cycling Federation, the Ghana Police Service, the media, Prudential staff, partners, and the dedicated cyclists. “What we have achieved since 2019 is proof that cycling can bring us together and help promote healthy living among many,” he remarked.
On his part, Mr. Emmanuel Hammond, the Head of Sustainability at Prudential Life Insurance Ghana, emphasized the importance of safety, urging all cyclists and stunt professionals to wear helmets and appropriate gear, and to follow all safety and road instructions to ensure a smooth and incident-free event, stressing that, “At Prudential, the safety of every life is important to us”.
Representing the Ghana Cycling Federation, Joseph Addo commended Prudential Life Insurance Ghana for its bold initiative in supporting and developing cycling. He assured the federation would continue to support Pruride to elevate it to a global sensation.
This year’s race will feature a 20km route for amateur cyclists and a 100km route for elite or professional cyclists. Participants will compete for cash prizes, medals, trophies, certificates, and souvenirs from Prudential Life Insurance. Notably, disabled cyclists will receive a special cash prize of 500 cedis, recognizing their participation and effort in the event.
