The Speaker of Parliament, the Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has condemned President Akufo-Addo’s lackadaisical attitude towards saving Ghana’s environment by stopping illegal mining, otherwise known as ‘galamsey’.
The Speaker says he and the President started a good cause to save the country some years back, and cannot fathom why the President is now staying unconcerned about the numerous calls to end illegal mining.
In a post made on his Facebook with a picture of their early years in Parliament, Mr. Bagbin recounted how they all had dreams of making Ghana a better place to be.
The longest serving Member of Parliament in Ghana’s Fourth Republic he is surprised Akufo-Addo is presiding over a nation where people who are destroying water bodies.
“We started off with good intentions to help build this country. We cannot grow to be the ones that destroy it by holding on to power while the environment is destroyed by people who are supposed to be licensed miners; and at the same time crash voices that speak up against it. Ghana deserves better!” he stated.
