As the next generation of pharmacists, Level 500 Doctor of Pharmacy students at the University of Ghana have been urged to seize the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the healthcare sector.
Prof. Felix Ankomah Asante, Pro Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Development, emphasized the significance of pharmacists in the healthcare ecosystem, highlighting their role in disease prevention and treatment.
He encouraged the students to remain committed to their studies and to be mindful of the responsibilities that come with their profession.
The Dean of the School of Pharmacy, Professor Isaac Julius Asiedu Gyekye, also addressed the students, reminding them of the importance of confidentiality and professionalism in their future careers.
He further noted the challenges faced by the School of Pharmacy, including the need for expanded facilities and resources to support the growing student population.
Dr. Ruby Aileen Mensah Annan, Director of Strategic Health Purchasing at the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), shared insights into the NHIA’s efforts to expand access to quality healthcare for all Ghanaians.
She highlighted the recent expansion of the NHIA’s benefit package, which now includes essential medicines previously unaffordable but now accessible to Ghanaians.
