The Ghana Institution of Surveyors (GhIS) has launched a comprehensive roadmap to strengthen the surveying profession and contribute to Ghana’s sustainable development.

The 20th Surveyors’ Week and the 56th Annual General Meeting (AGM) brought together stakeholders to discuss key areas of focus, including land administration, urbanization, and infrastructure development.

According to Dr. Anthony Arko-Adjei, President of GhIS, the institution is committed to harnessing and projecting surveying competencies to drive national development.

In an interview with the press during the official press launch held on 10th March, 2025, Dr. Arko-Adjei  indicated that, “We recognize the critical role surveyors play in shaping Ghana’s infrastructure, real estate, and environmental sustainability,” he said.

“Our goal is to enhance the impact of the surveying profession on national policy and infrastructure planning,” he emphasized.

The GhIS roadmap outlines strategic partnerships with key government agencies, including the Lands Commission and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.

The institution also aims to leverage technology, including artificial intelligence (AI) and geospatial technologies, to enhance data accuracy, efficiency, and decision-making.

Other key areas of focus include combating illegal mining (Galamsey), improving property taxation, and promoting environmental sustainability. The GhIS leadership emphasized the need for surveyors to verify their credentials and adhere to professional standards.

The 20th Surveyors’ Week and the 56th AGM feature a series of events, including an orientation session for newly qualified professional surveyors, an induction ceremony, a conference with professional paper presentations, and a presidential lecture focusing on research related to national development.
