As the nation mourns the untimely death of the late Dr John Kumah, Deputy Finance Minister and Member of Parliament for Ejisu, a cloud of controversy has been generated over the allegations of poisoning made by Onua TV presenter, Captain Smart.
But in a dramatic twist, the widow of the deceased, Apostle Mrs Lilian Kumah, has come forward to forcefully refute the claim, describing Captain Smart’s assertion as baseless and misleading.
Captain Smart, in late February 2024, made startling allegations of a plot involving the poisoning of key members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), including the late John Kumah.
The narrative began to unfold in the wake of Kumah’s death, with some speculating that the poison mentioned by Captain Smart might have contributed to the MP’s untimely demise.
After the death of Kumah, Captain Smart reportedly reiterated his allegation on Onua FM on March 8, standing firm on his earlier claim and fuelling further speculations.
However, in an exclusive interview with Asaase News, Apostle Lilian Kumah denied the claim by Captain Smart and categorically dismissed any link between her husband’s death and poisoning.
Instead, she revealed that John Kumah had been battling a terminal blood-related disease since last year.
The widow disclosed that the diagnosis was made in Germany around August 2023, which was contrary to the sensational claim, adding that she accompanied her husband to numerous medical check-ups, both in Germany and Ghana, and at no point was poisoning ever mentioned by any medical professional.
Expressing her deep frustration and sorrow, Apostle Lilian Kumah emphasised the detrimental impact of the unfounded claims on her grieving family and called for swift police action against the individuals spreading the false allegations.
“If there are laws in this country concerning such false claims, I think this is the time for law enforcement agencies to bring those who make such false allegations to book to prove the claims and to point out the persons who might be involved in the poisoning of my late husband,” Mrs Kumah firmly stated.
