Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly and Tunisian giants Esperance have advanced to the final of this season’s CAF Champions League following their dramatic victories on Friday night.
Al Ahly secured their place in the final with a remarkable late comeback, defeating TP Mazembe 3-0 in Cairo and qualifying 3-1 on aggregate.
Meanwhile, Esperance held their nerve to edge out Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0 in Pretoria, qualifying 2-0 on aggregate.
Al Ahly, record 11-time winners, are favourites as they aim for an unprecedented fourth Champions League crown in five years.
However, they are aware of the formidable threat posed by Esperance, who have clinched the African title four times.
Just four years ago, Esperance stunned Al Ahly in the 2018 final, emerging victorious and securing back-to-back titles.
With the first leg scheduled for Tunis on May 18, followed by the return fixture in Cairo a week later, a monumental clash awaits between these two battle-hardened continental heavyweights.
