As the country Ghana gear towards her General Presidential and Parliamentary elections on 7th December, 2020, the ruling party, New Patriotic Party (NPP) in its quest to retain power has officially inaugurated two bodies namely; Greater Accra Regional Advisory Committee and the Greater Accra Regional Election Campaign Committee.
The inauguration held in Accra on 19th August, 2020 is to ensure that, the party reatains most of its parliamentary seats as well increase the current number through vigorous campaign explaining the good works and polices of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led government.
Speaking at the ceremony under the theme: “Four More for Nana, Four More to do More”, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Ishmael Ashitey indicated that, over the years, winning the elections at the coastal areas assured the party of victory.
Therefore made a passionate call on the two bodies to vigorously engage the coastal folks, explaining to them the party’s achievements, vision and reason why they the electorates need to give His Excellency (H. E) Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo another four years to elad the country to the promise land of milk and honey.
This he beleives can ensure a massive votes in the Greater Accra region to retain the party in pover come Decembef polls to continue its good works and polices for the wellbeing and development of the ordinary Ghanaian and the economy at large.
Inaugurating these two bodies at the well attended ceremony by the various Constituency Executives and their respective Parliamentary Candidates, the National Deputy Campaign Officer, Mr. Lord Oblitey Commey revealed that, the task ahead is challenging.
Therefore, there is the need for them to put their house(s) in order, campaign vigorously, embark on house to house campaign to convince the electorates of the NPP success story as well its intended polices when re-elected to govern for another four years come 7th December general elections.
The five-member Advisory Committee include; Rev Professor Mike Oquaye, the Speaker of Parliament, Sheikh Ibrahim Cudjoe Quaye, a Former Member of Parliament (MP) of Ayawaso Central and Mr Stanley Nii Adjiri Blankson, a Former Mayor of Greater Accra and Madam Gladys Ashiety, a Former MP for Ledzokuku as well Mr. Ray Ankrah.
The astute politician believes that Nana Addo Danlwa Akufo-Addo-led government has done so much work in the midst of challenges including; COVID-19 that seriously needs to be propagated to electorate(s) to win their votes.
“Let’s get out of the primaries’ mood, solve our differences and get to work. Chief Executives, Constituency Chairman, and Parliamentary Candidates must begin to work together because all of these people will form a campaign team at the constituency. NPP as a family of people who know how to set issues behind and rise to conquer,” he stressed.
To ensure a resounding victory, Mr. Lord Commey tasked the teams to assign responsibilities and adopt a mixed approach including; door-door and social media to contain the spread of COVID-19 and commended the party supporters and officials for their hard work during the just-ended Registration Exercise.
On his part, the Chairman of the Greater Accra Region, Mr Divine Agorhom indicated that, statistics from the just ended Voter’s Registration clearly shows that, the Region Greater Accra is the region with the highest voter population.
“As a swing region, it is a big responsibility for us to achieve our target of wining 24 parliamentary seats and also securing more than 53 per cent of the Presidential votes.
To achieve this, he noted that “We expect members to avail themselves for the task ahead and contribute to the victory the party is seeking,”
The New Patriotic Party ( NPP) led government he said have a great vision and was implementing programmes such as One Village, One Dam – 1V1D, One District One Factory – 1D1F, One Constituency USD1 million One Year that would serve both present and future generation.
Mr Agorhom who doubles up as the Chairman of Regional Election Campaign Committee stressed the need for constituencies, campaign teams, to reach out to more grassroot people to secure more votes.
The Ceremony was well attended having Regional Executives, Aspiring Parliamentary Candidates (PCs) as well the various Constituency Executives and past Member(s) of Parliament (MPs), government appointees and past Regional Executives in the Greater Accra Region.
