The President of the Republic, His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has reiterated his administration commitment to continue partnering with private sector to improve sanitation in the country.
The President made the statement when he commissioned the second phase of the Accra Compost and Recycling Plant at Adjen kotoku in the Greater Accra Region.
He used the occasion to commend Jospong Group of Companies for its support to government to make Ghana one of the cleanest countries in Africa.

He therefore assured the Executive Chairman of his government continuous support to make Ghana one of the cleanest and safest countries in Africa.
On his part, the Greater Accra Regional Minister Henry Quartey, acknowledged the efforts of Jospong Group of Companies to help the region handle its huge waste produced on daily basis.
He said the ACARP will enhance the waste management system within the national capital Accra.

To the traditional leaders, Mr Quartey called on them to continue supporting the government and private entrepreneurs within their jurisdictions as they work collectively to make Ghana work again.
The project is the second phase of the three-phased compositing and recycling plant, which adds 800-tins line to the existing 690-tons facility.

It also boosts of additional machines from Lubo in the Netherlands and expansion of the floor area.
The project also seeks to provide Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) within the catchment areas, a viable and cost-effective alternative to dumpsite as well help meet the growing demand for organic compost for soil enhancement medium or fertilizers .
Furthermore, will provide sustainable material and energy recovery solutions to the high or increasing levels of recyclables in our Municipal Solid Waste.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Executive Chairman of Jospong Group of Companies, Dr Jospeh Siaw Agyepong, indicated that the ACARP is a workable solution to the daunting waste management challenges confronting us as a people.
According to him, the project is a direct response to Ghana attaining goal 6 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which demands the provision of clean environmental sanitation management to protect the ecosystem and promote healthy environments globally.
The establishment of ACARP, he emphasised, has indeed demonstrated the commitment of his group ensuring sustainable alternatives to the waste management situation in the country.

“This has contributed significantly to mitigating the threats to public health and environmental safety; the establishment of the facility is a revolutionary move to radicalize the waste management industry in Ghana and beyond”, Dr Agyepong noted.
Dr Siaw Agyepong hinted that as part of its strategic plan to extensively manage the waste situation in Ghana, his group was setting up mobile plants with daily processing capacity of 200 TPD per line in all Regional capitals.
With regard to workforce, the plant which started with 150 workers will be adding additional 200 more workers, he said.

Other interventions put in place by the Jospong Group towards waste management across the country through the support of President Akufo-Addo, and the hard work of Madam Cecilia Avena Dapaah, included ongoing construction of 16 integrated recycling and compost plants (IRECOPs) in all the 16 regions
This, he said, was being done alongside the construction of 14 medical waste treatment plants and waste water treatment facilities in some parts of the country.

In another development, the President, Nana Addo Dankwa-Akufo-Addo also inspected the Kpone Landfill site located at Kpone to ascertain the works done there by the Jospong Group of Companies.
The Kpone Landsite is to serve the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) within the capital city, Accra in the Greater Accra Region.
BACKGROUND:
The Accra Compost and Recycling Plant (ACARP) is the first state-of-the-art waste sorting and composting facility in West Africa.
ACRAP was established in July 2021 to provide integrated approach to managing Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) within the city of Accra and its environs.
The plant, with a processing capacity of 600 metric tonnes per day (TPD), will receive, sort and produce high-quality organic compost for agricultural and agronomical activities as well as other recyclable products such as plastics, paper, metal scraps for both local and international market.
ACRAP which is equipped with modern teaching and learning facilities as well as ultramodern laboratories for training and research into modern effective processing and recycling technologies strongly believes that recycling is good for the environment, human health, and the economy.
In a short medium term, Accra Compost and Recycling Plant (ACRAP) seeks to expand its existing facility to 2000 Tonnes Per Day (TPD) to comprehensively manage the over 3000 metric tonnes of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) generated daily in the capital city, Accra.
