COVID-19: CHINESE COMMUNITY DONATE VENTILATORS & PPEs TO RIDGE HOSPITAL

The Greater Accra Regional Hospital has received a donation of 15 Ventilators and some Personal Protective Equipments (PPEs) from the Chinese community in Ghana.

These PPEs comprises of 20000 medical masks, 1,600 N95 masks, 120 protective suits, 60 face shields, and 100 medical goggles.


The donation was done today, 17th June, 2020 at the premises of the Hospital in Accra, the captial city of Ghana.

Speaking at the generous donation ceremony, the outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Shi Ting Wang. in his speech acknowledged that, these donation would boost government fight against the novel, Corona Virus.

“We believe these supplies would help Ghana to win the battle against COVID-19 as early as possible”, he opined.

The realization of the donation he explained is as a result of collaborative effort between the Chinese Embassy in Ghana and the Chinese Community.

Furtherance, the Ambassador Shi Ting Wang indicated that, the COVID-19 since its outbreak globally, has brought serious crisis to seriously affected countries around the world hence poses a serious threat to human health and life.


Narrating the success fight of China against the pandemic, the outgoing Ambassador pointed out that, they China adopted extensive, stringent, and thorough containment measures on the disease.

Adding “This is a war that humanity has to fight and win and facing this unknown, unexpected, devastating disease, China launched a resolute battle to prevent and control its spread, “

However indicated that “There are only few home-grown confirmed cases in China right now. A decisive victory was secured but we are still vigilant and extremely cautious.”

The COVID-19 pandemic he said is raging the world; lives are lost every single day which China believes that all countries should make choices that is right for the interests of all humanity and the well-being of their future generations.

“Upholding the vision of a global community of shared future, we should support each other and join hands to contain the spread of the virus, and protect the health and well-being of people across the globe”, he emphasized.

Supporting developing countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America he said is China top priority especially Africa to improve their capacity and performance in epidemic prevention and control.

“In addition to the medical supplies sent to over 50 African countries and the AU, and 7 medical expert teams dispatched to the continent, China will offer more assistance to African countries, and continue to do all in its power to offer support”, he said.

“China and Ghana stood hand in hand since the beginning of the outbreak. At the beginning of this year when China’s epidemic situation was in its most difficult period, Ghana has given us a lot of support. And in return, when the outbreak began in Ghana since March, China spares no pains to help Ghana and other African countries in fighting against the virus,” he acclaimed.

Recounting China support to Ghana, he revealed that, China is the first country to send medical supplies by chartered flight to Ghana and in the past few month, batches after batches of medical donations have been sent to Ghana in different ways, including Chinese government assistance, Jack Ma foundation, the local Chinese community and enterprises donations, and etc.

The outgoing Ambassador Shi Ting Wang therefore assured the Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Oko Boye of China’s continuous support in the future hence to enhance strategic communication between China and Africa, and build consensus to fight against the pandemic, revealing that, an Extraordinary China-Africa Summit on Solidarity against COVID-19 will be conveyed today, 17th June, 2020.

On his part, the Deputy Minister of Health, Dr Bernard Oko Boye expressed government appreciation for the kind gesture from the Chinese Embassy and the Chinese Community in Ghana.

“This donatiom has come at the right time since the Hospital has been looking for equipments and PPEs to improve its Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as they cater for OVID-19 patients especially the ventilators”, he acknowledged.

He used the ocassion to thank the Chinese Embassy in Ghana as well as the Chinese Community for their continuous support to the people of Ghana.

The items where received by the Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Oko Boye and Medical Director, Dr. Emmanuel Srofenyoh.
