Pressure From NDC Made Us Release The Fund- Kofi Abatey

As the dust of the just-ended Ghana’s general elections is yet to settle, Special Aide to the Ghana’s Sports Minister, Kofi Asare Brako aka Abatey has disclosed the reason why the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government released monies to support Ghanaian clubs participating in the Africa Champion League competition.

This according to him is as a result of the main opposition party, National Democratic Congress (NDC) stating in their Peoples’ Manifesto and campaigned to help clubs that participate in Africa Champion League Competition.

This act, the Sports Minister Special Aide revealed quickly informed the government to  release a Statement announcing the Sports Ministry financial support for clubs participating in Africa competitions.

This was to disfuse the campaign of the main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as it was elections period.

The Sports Minister Special Aide, Mr.Kofi Asare Brako aka Abatey made these revelations during an interview with Kumasi based radio station, Light FM on its Sports Show monitored by www.thenewindependentonline.com

Explaining why Ashgold didn’t receive their share of the government money, he indicated that, “Ashgold didn’t receive their share of the government money because they were kicked out early from the competition”.

Adding that, “The money was due for clubs who reached the group stage of the competition unlike Asante Kotoko who pleaded for direct support from the government.”

With regards to Asante Kotoko Football Club, he disclosed that, “Nana Yaw Amponsah came to meet the Minister and told him the hardship the club was going through and demanded the Ministry give kotoko $50 000 of the governtment promised money to the team when they qualify to the group stage of the Caf champion league competition.

However, Ashgold Football Club over some weeks now has been demanding of their shar of the government promised money to clubs that compete in Africa Champion League Competition.
