Defending FA Cup Champions, Accra Hearts of Oak have progressed into the round 16 of the FA’s second biggest competition.

The Phobians made light work of Division One League club, Golden Kicks at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday. Hearts of Oak who failed to glitter in the CAF Champions League and the Confederation Cup, opened the floodgates through burly striker, Kofi Kordzi with just five minutes played. The 21 minute Ghana Premier League holders did not live stones unturned when they increased the tally thirteen minutes after the first goal. Daniel Afriyie Barnieh connected a well taken corner kick to make the score line 2-0 for the millennium champions. With the Golden Kicks bent on causing a surprise in Accra, they fought relentlessly which saw them pull a goal back through Isaac Pappoe on the 29th minute.

As the game wore on, the Phobians sensed danger and quickly doubled their effort against the visitors. They knicked in their third goal on the stroke of half time with defender, Daniel Sewornu striking to make it 3-1. Back from recess, the 2000 CAF Champions League winners conceded their second goal of the game when Nathaniel Awaitey pulled one goal to make it 3-2 on the 66th minute. Hearts of Oak striker, Kojo Obeng Junior netted Hearts of Oak’s 4th goal on the 84th minute after a perfect assist from Salifu Ibrahim.

Hearts of Oak will ice the cake with their 5th goal of the tournament on the 90th minute from substitute, Seidu Suraj to complete the mauling of the Division One League club. The Phobians have now progressed into the last 16 of the tournament which they won last season to add to the Premier League title. Hearts of Oak defeated AshantiGold 8-7 on penalty in last season’s MTN FA Cup finals at the Accra Sports Stadium after claiming their 21st league title and first in over a decade.
