The West African nation has been in the news for the wrong reasons in recent weeks following their dismal performance at the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Several attributes have been linked to Ghana’s nauseating output with the popular “juju” taking center stage.

Reports had it that, some players brought into camp their “spiritual fathers” which led to late night incantations and chanting in other hotel rooms sparking fear in the process among teammates.

Ajax star, Mohammed Kudus who missed the 2021 AFCON and Arsenal midfielder, Thomas Partey were reported to have raised concerns about the African practice in the Black Stars camp.

Charles Taylor played for both Ghana’s top clubs, Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko and equally enjoyed a brief spell with the national team.

He said: “The black magic associated with the Black Stars is numerous but maybe these players protect themselves with this black magic. “But because there is lack of unity in the Ghana team, other players coming on board are scared of the black magic associated with the squad,” the former Great Olympics forward told Ebusua fm.

“I want to caution the professional players against responding to Black Stars invitation because the disgrace could be dire. “Let’s ask what caused the injury of [Mohammed] Kudus.

“He could not play for the Black Stars. “The Black Stars camp is a different place altogether. It was in the Black Stars that I saw teammates bath with unknown concoctions,” Charles Taylor told Ebusua fm.

The topic of “black power” is nothing new at tournaments to Ghana as in 2012, Serbian coach, Goran “Plavi” Stevanovic in a leaked technical report to the Ghana Football Associated, cited the use of the “African charms” by the players to enhance their performance which he believed hampered team work.

Ghana finished 4th at the 28th edition of the tournament jointly hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Ghana.

Southampton defender, Salisu Mohammed, Felix Afena-Gyan and a couple of other players have been reported to reject the Black Stars call up due to such obnoxious practices.

Ghana are up against Nigeria over two legs in the final phase of the qualifiers for one of Africa’s slot at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar this year.
