David Abagna: Black Stars midfielder to return for RTU in the second round

Ghana Premier League side, Real Tamale United are set to be boosted by the return of their talisman, David Abagna Sandan for the second round of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season.

The attacking midfielder injured his little toe while on international duty with the Black Stars of Ghana at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

The absence of the 25-year old has taken a bit of grit and shine from the Tamale lads who struggled to claim just two points from their last four games.

They braved the tides to knick a goalless draw against defending champions, Hearts of Oak in the final first round game at the Aliu Mahama Stadium on Sunday of which forward, Ronald Frimpong deemed the Phobians to have been lucky to earn a point.

“It was a very cagey encounter because both clubs coming from a defeat, you know every club was poised for action.

“But we wanted to take them by surprise, getting all the maximum three points but luck was on their side and they got a point away from here,” Ronald Frimpong told StarTimes.

“We wanted to just capitalize on it [Hearts of Oak’s red card] and score a goal but you see all the shots were not on target and they leaned back.

“You know the coach was very tactical so he brought in the people who could just defend the game and also we were throwing all the arsenals on them so they did well to just hold us for a draw here.

“We started on a very high note but you see, injuries and suspension just gave us some little break but I’m telling you second round, RTU is coming back stronger because you see Abagna [Sandan] and other colleagues will be coming back strongly so just hope for a better second round here.” Ronald Frimpong added.

Real Tamale United will be the guests of Great Olympics in the second round opener at the Accra Sports Stadium.
