Deputy Minister of Energy, Andrew Egyapa Mercer has stated that government will work to achieve its clean energy target by 2060.
According to him, the national energy mix has increased from 42.5 megawatts to 180 megawatts in less than a year.
“Our commitment is unwavering and our vision is clear. We seek to harness the power of renewable energy, optimise energy efficiency and create a green and resilient energy landscape. Over the years, Ghana has made significant strides in the field of renewable energy,” he stated.
Speaking at the West African Clean Energy and Environment Trade Fair and Conference, Mr. Mercer said “under our Renewable Energy Masterplan, Ghana aims to increase the proportion of renewable energy in the national energy mix from 42.5 MW to 1,363.63 MW by 2060. Currently, the figure stands at 180MW representing 3.3% of Ghana’s energy mix”.
Representing the German Ambassador to Ghana, a member of the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Ghana, Burkhardt Hellemann emphasised the importance of organising events like the West African Clean Energy and Environment Trade Fair and Conference.
“In these extraordinary times, when the world faces pressing environmental challenges and the urgent need to mitigate climate change, it is our privilege to convene leaders, innovators and advocates for sustainability from across West Africa and beyond,” he intimated.
The German Embassy organised the West African Clean Energy and Environment Trade Fair and Conference. Mr. Hellemann indicated that Germany looks forward to future collaborations to ensure that net zero emissions is achieved by 2060.
