A Civil Society group that seeks to promote Christian values and principles, The Advocates for Christ has emphatically called on government of Ghana to halt the intended mandatory COVID-19 vaccination of citizens.
According to the Group, government intention breaches the Constitutional rights of citizens and must be halted with immediate effect.
The Advocates for Christ Ghana is a civil society group of Christian professionals, parents, and pastors.
Speaking at Press Briefing on government mandatory vaccination, Mr. Edem Senanu, Chairperson of the Group noted that, the choices of citizens ought to be respected and protected.
Explaining that, there is the need for Government to embark on intensive and comprehensive education of the citizenry on its vaccination drive policy.
This he said will pave way for citizens to voluntarily choose to accept the vaccines, stressing, “Vaccinations can continue but should not be compulsory.”
Furthermore, Mr Senanu was of the view that, stepping up efforts and measures to curb the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic by Government is of importance.
This he believes will help in the adherence to the COVID-19 safety protocols, citing the wearing of nose masks, social distancing, washing of hands with soap under running water and the use of sanitizers and stem the spread of the virus.
Since it’s outbreak, precautions according to Mr. Senanu had proven to be best practices in containing the spread of the pandemic in the country as compared to the vaccine intake, therefore used the platform to urge Government to focus on the above.
“Treatment of COVID-19 with Vitamin C, Zinc tablets and others, had proven to be better than vaccines” he expressed.
Saying, “In countries like Israel that have achieved high coverage of citizens in respect of vaccinations, immunity against the new variants is reported low and boosters are having to be considered to curb the escalating infections.”
“Global reports on the side effects and number of deaths arising from these vaccines are many, undermining our objective of protecting every single Ghanaian citizen and this is not what citizens bargained for”, he added.
Meanwhile the Chairperson for The Advocates for Christ, plead that, the growing concern about the negative effect of the vaccines on people who took them should not be glossed over.
On the way forward to ensure government intention of mandatory vaccination is halted, he revealed that, the Group would be petitioning Parliament as well as consider legal options if not withdrawn.
On the reviewing of the COVID-19 protocols, Ghana Health Service on the 9th of December, 2021 in a press release proposed a mandatory vaccination for all Ghanaians from 1st January, 2022.
According to Press Release, it stated that,”All unvaccinated Ghanaians and residents of Ghana who are currently outside the country and intend to return within 14 days from the midnight of December 12, 2021, are exempted. However, they would be vaccinated on arrival at the airport.”
It further stated that all workers in government institutions, commercial drivers and ‘okada’ riders would have to show vaccine certificates before they would be allowed to work from next year.
