Accra, Ghana – The Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) has called on its members to embrace responsible journalism in the age of artificial intelligence, as it commemorated World Press Freedom Day 2026.
Under the global theme “Shaping a Future at Peace” and the sub-theme “Journalism in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Safeguarding Press Freedom and Media Integrity”, PRINPAG President, Mr. David Tamakloe, urged members to ensure accuracy, fairness, and human editorial judgment remain core to their work.
In a press release, Mr. Tamakloe commended members for their dedication, resilience, and professionalism, saying “Your consistent commitment to ethical journalism and truth-telling continues to strengthen Ghana’s democratic foundations and uphold the credibility of the media landscape.”
He acknowledged the challenges facing media practitioners, including economic constraints, safety concerns, and technological changes, but assured members that better days are ahead.
The association is pursuing strategic initiatives to enhance member welfare through advocacy, partnerships, capacity-building programs, and other interventions aimed at strengthening the sustainability of the journalism profession. PRINPAG called on members to persist in objective, balanced, and constructive criticism of leadership, exercising courage and integrity without fear or favor.
Mr. Tamakloe stated, “We commend our members for their remarkable resilience and professionalism over the years. Even in the face of evolving challenges, you have remained committed to the truth. As we navigate the age of artificial intelligence, I urge all members to continue supporting Ghana’s democracy in your own small ways, both individually and collectively.”
The press release added that PRINPAG is committed to protecting press freedom, upholding ethical standards, and adapting responsibly to emerging technologies to preserve the integrity of journalism in Ghana.
