“Otto Addo does not deserve to be Black Stars head coach” – Ex-Ghana youth star fires

Ex-Ghana youth international, Skelley Adu Tutu says he prefers Otto Addo in Black Stars assistant capacity to being a head coach.

Otto Addo has been named on interim basis to handle the Black Stars for the final two legged 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in March.

The Borussia Dortmund scout has been paired with some technical brains to help him steer the three time World Cup participants to Qatar after missing out on the last edition in 2018 held in Russia.

In a bid to qualify for a fourth mundial, former Newcastle United manager, Chris Hughton will serve as Technical Advisor with ex-Dutch international, George Boateng, former Kotoko coach, Mas Ud Didi Dramani and Stephen Appiah who skippered Ghana to two world cups as his assistants.

Ghana must beat West African rivals, Nigeria over the two legs to book a place at the World Cup later this year but many have questioned Otto Addo’s capabilities to achieve that feat having managed at the top level in his career.

Skelley, who played for Ghana’s U-20 at the 1999 FIFA World Cup in Nigeria, believes Otto Addo would be a perfect deputy to Chris Hughton.

“For me he [Otto Addo should have been the assistant coach] but if he has been given the nod, I have nothing to say.

“Because for me, with his pedigree, if he assists, it will help us because he hasn’t coached any team before.

“At Dortmund, he is a scout for the youth team because I have nothing against Otto Addo, he has been my friend since we were in Hannover but he should have been an assistant to that Englishman [Chris Hughton].

“Because he has never been the head of any team since he started coaching so I don’t understand why he the FA wants to give him the head coach ahead of the two leg qualifier.” Adu Tutu Skelly told Adikanfo fm of Berekum.

The Black Stars are faced with a must World Cup qualification to placate the disappointed Ghanaians after their horrible AFCON outing in Cameroon this year.

The four time African champions finished group c with just a point – losing their opener 1-0 to Morocco before posting a 1-1 draw against Gabon and losing 3-2 to debutants, Comoros.

The group stage exit was the nation’s first since the 2006 edition held in Egypt.
