The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana (IEAG) has issued a statement to clarify its position on the Publican Artificial Intelligence (AI) System being implemented at Ghana’s ports.

In a press statement dated April 9, 2026, the IEAG stated that it supports the Publican AI System, which has been rolled out to enhance revenue mobilisation, improve transparency, and reduce revenue leakages at the ports. The Association noted that certain individuals and groups have been misrepresenting its position on the system, relying on an outdated media publication from December 18, 2025.

The IEAG explained that its initial concerns about the system, raised in 2025, were centered on the lack of adequate stakeholder consultation, data security, transparency, and system integration. However, following extensive engagements with government stakeholders, including the Finance Ministry and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), the Association is satisfied that its concerns have been addressed.

The IEAG acknowledged that the implementation phase has experienced some operational challenges, but recognized the efforts by authorities to address these issues. The Association noted that recent engagements, including responses to concerns raised at stakeholder forums, further affirm government’s commitment to ensuring the system functions efficiently and effectively.

The IEAG cautioned the public to disregard attempts by individuals or groups seeking to misrepresent its position on the Publican AI System, stating that such efforts do not only undermine national progress but also serve narrow or parochial interests. The Association reaffirmed its commitment to supporting policies and reforms that enhance efficiency at the ports, eliminate bottlenecks, protect national revenue, and promote a fair and competitive trading environment.

The statement was signed by Samson Asaki Awingobit, Executive Secretary of IEAG.
