One of the retail giant, Melcom Group of companies today, 25th June, 2019 launched it’s 30th year of existence in the industry.
Melcom Group of Companies from a humble yet ambitious set up in a single Melcom Shop in 1989, Melcom has transformed into a Group of Companies operating subsidiaries that are relevant to Ghana’s development process.
Among these are Crown Star Electronic Industry Limited in 1992, Century which is a plastic injection moulding Company incorporated into the Melcom Group in 2000 whiles Meclom Travel and Tours Limited which differentiatess itself from competitors by providing personalised service to each customer with speedy and efficient connections to world class Airlines across the globe.
Speaking at the formal launch of the Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects, the Director of Communications, Mr. Godwin Avenorgbo indicated that, as Melcom celebrates it’s 30th anniversary, Melcom will be supporting ten schools in three regions namely Greater Accra, Eastern and the Volta regions with improved water and sanitation facilities.
“It’s a sad situation to observe that some of these schools don’t even have toilet facilities while others have those that are non functional”,he remarked.
These schools he says range from Primary through Secondary to Tertiary institutions, Mr. Avenorgbo said.
In addition to this, he acknowledged that, some deprived Communities would also be assisted with bore holes for the supply of high quality water for healthy living.
The Youth of Ghana was also not left out of the 30th anniversary of Meclom Group of Companies, hence there will be a creation of a new s holarship s heme for Entrepreneurial training at one of Ghana’s renowned Universities as their additional contribution to the development of relevant skills set for better employment opportunities.
“We have an eye on a hospital ward for an upgrade and before the end of the year, Melcom will provide full sponsorship for a National Blood Donation Campaign to increase the sock of blood at our hospitals in time for the busy Christmas and End of Year season”.he revealed.
