A dispute has arisen within the Abu Banda family regarding an unauthorized funeral ceremony for the late Alhaji Asoma Abu Banda, scheduled to take place at the State House.

The family has publicly distanced itself from this event, stating that it was neither approved by them nor by the state.

During a press conference held at the Abu Banda Mosque on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, Alhaji Mohammed Abu Banda, the head of the family and Chief of Banda in the Ashanti Region, expressed his concerns about the unauthorized funeral.

He emphasized the family’s commitment to preserving the late Alhaji’s legacy, dignity, and religious wishes. Alhaji Mohammed clarified that Alhaji Abdullah Khalifa, also known as Alhaji Abomour, did not have the authority to organize this event.

Alhaji Asoma Abu Banda, a prominent businessman and philanthropist, passed away on March 1, 2025.

He was laid to rest in the mosque he built in the Airport Residential Area, following his wishes and Islamic tradition.

The family had initially invited well-wishers and the public to attend the burial, which was attended by prominent figures, including President John Dramani Mahama and the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Sharubutu.

Meanwhile, the Abu Banda family has announced an official 40-day funeral service scheduled for Thursday, April 10, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.

This service will take place at the mosque in the Airport Residential Area and will be led by the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu.

It will include Qur’anic recitation and prayers in honor of the late Alhaji Asoma Abu Banda.

To promote peace and unity, the Abu Banda family urges well-wishers and the public to attend the official funeral service instead of the unauthorized event planned at the State House.

They call for respect for the late Alhaji’s wishes and legacy, emphasizing the importance of adhering to Islamic traditions and the directives outlined in his will.
