Konongo, Ghana – In the wake on the over whelm demands to tackle galamsey, Ghana’s multifaith communities have come together for the “GreenFaith “ Walk for Climate, as part of the global Faiths4Climate Justice campaign.

The event, held in Konongo, on Monday, 21th October, 2024 highlighted the critical role that faith leaders and congregations play in advocating for long-term climate action.

The walk brought together nearly 130 individuals from diverse faith groups, including Muslims, Christians, and Traditionalists.

The participants walked peacefully, showcasing their shared commitment to environmental stewardship and raising awareness about key environmental challenges such as illicit mining.

At a press conference following the walk, faith leaders discussed the detrimental effects of illegal mining on local communities and called on leaders to take just and sustainable action.

They emphasized the need for communities to adopt renewable energy sources, reduce carbon emissions, and halt the development and financing of fossil fuels.

“The beauty of this event lies in our collective commitment to promoting climate action across various faiths,” said one of the organizers.

“We hope to inspire others to join us in this crucial fight for our planet’s future”, they noted.

The GreenFaith Walk for Climate underscored the importance of cooperation among different faiths in addressing climate change and environmental degradation.

By uniting for this cause, participants demonstrated that preserving the earth is a shared responsibility that transcends religious boundaries.

The event concluded with a press briefing where faith leaders reiterated their call for climate justice and urged for the protection of natural resources. “Our message is clear: keep it in the ground and end climate injustices,” declared one of the faith leaders.

The walk is expected to inspire further actions and collaborations among faith-based organizations to support climate-friendly practices and policies, contributing to a sustainable and just future for all.
