Accra, 26 May 2026 — Vivo Energy Ghana PLC, the exclusive distributor and marketer of Shell-branded fuels and lubricants in Ghana, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Applied Technology Institute (ATI) to strengthen technical skills development among young automotive professionals.
The agreement, signed at Vivo Energy Ghana’s Head Office in Accra, will support a technical apprenticeship initiative under the company’s Mechanic Advocacy Programme aimed at building the next generation of certified automotive technicians in the country.
The partnership seeks to equip young mechanics within the informal sector with industry-relevant technical skills through a structured training model that combines classroom learning with hands-on practical experience. It is also expected to enhance employability, promote professionalism, and strengthen safety standards within Ghana’s automotive and lubricants industry.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Managing Director of Vivo Energy Ghana, Christian Li, expressed appreciation to ATI for collaborating on the initiative, describing skills development as critical to the future of the industry.

“I would like to sincerely thank the Applied Technology Institute for partnering with us in our shared vision to develop the next generation of skilled professionals,” he said.
He noted that the rapidly evolving automotive sector requires workers who are not only technically competent but also safety-conscious.
“The automotive and lubricants industry continues to evolve rapidly, creating a growing demand for highly skilled professionals equipped with strong technical capabilities and a firm commitment to safety,” he added.
On his part, Ing. Emmanuel Kotey Ashie, Principal of ATI, said the collaboration would help bridge the gap between academic training and industry practice.
“Through this collaboration, our students and employees will benefit from practical training, industrial exposure, innovation, and skills development aligned with current industry demands,” he said. “We believe this partnership will strengthen the connection between academic learning and the professional world.”
Also speaking at the event, Kerim Kermen, Vice President for Central Lubricants and Commercial at Vivo Energy Group, said the initiative aligns with both national development priorities and the company’s broader strategic goals in skills development and youth empowerment.
Former ATI students who are currently employed at Vivo Energy Ghana service stations and lube bays also shared testimonies, highlighting how the programme has helped them gain practical skills and professional experience that have advanced their careers.
Beyond employment, the apprenticeship programme is expected to support entrepreneurship and economic empowerment by equipping graduates with the skills needed to establish their own automotive workshops, lubricant service centres, and related businesses.
The initiative forms part of Vivo Energy Ghana’s broader commitment to youth empowerment and sustainable national development through skills training and job creation.
