Written by ...

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has inaugurated the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs with a reminder to the 19-member body to prioritise the development of the region as their primary responsibility.

He said the efficient traditional administration of the region must be the prime concern of the individual members and a core function of the House.

Addressing the Chiefs at Techiman as part of his two-day working visit to the region, President Akufo-Addo implored the chiefs to use the authority of the House to facilitate and project the development of the area.

He said the region was a young one, which needed the necessary attention to develop.

The President assured his government would fairly provide the region with equal and necessary infrastructure as it pertained to other regions to accelerate the socio-economic progress of the people.

President Akufo-Addo, however, reminded the Chiefs on the need to exhibit efficient and good leadership qualities by discharging their duties without fear or favour to bring peace, unity and prosperity to their respective jurisdictions.

He announced that government, through the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs, had awarded on contract a 100-seater capacity building for the House and would again institute capacity-building programmes to sharpen the leadership skills of Chiefs in the region.

The President said the government would soon inaugurate a platform that would digitize all records of the national and regional houses of Chiefs, increase the numbers of sitting of members and continue to moderate in resolving chieftaincy disputes in the country.

He urged the chiefs to demonstrate the need to observe the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) prevention directives and protocols because the disease was still around infecting and killing people.

President Akufo-Addo further announced the Region was benefiting from 170 completed socio-economic projects which included 60 in education, 17 for health and 32 in the area of water and sanitation.

He expressed gratitude to the House for the resolution of the Nkoranza chieftaincy dispute, saying it would propel the area on the path of unity and progress.

Justice Alexander Graham, a Circuit Court Judge at Techiman, swore in the members by leading them to swear the three national oaths of office, secrecy and allegiance.
