The Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA) has expressed deep concern over the recent outbreak of violence in Nkwanta, Oti Region, which has resulted in at least three fatalities.

In a statement, FOSDA condemned the clashes and called for immediate calm and restraint in the affected communities. FOSDA’s Executive Director, Mrs. Theodora W. Anti, emphasized the importance of peaceful dialogue to address the differences that have led to this violence.

“We unequivocally condemn the recent clashes, which have tragically claimed at least three lives, and we call for immediate calm and restraint in the affected communities,” she stated.

FOSDA has also urged the Government of Ghana to adequately resource and empower the National and Regional Peace Councils to proactively address the longstanding tensions fueling the violence.

She added, “A well-resourced Peace Council, working in close collaboration with civil society organizations, would be better positioned to mediate and prevent such outbreaks.”

FOSDA commended the security agencies for their timely intervention and the arrests made thus far.

“Their ongoing neutrality and professionalism are vital for restoring peace and building community trust in the resolution process,” the statement noted.

Additionally, FOSDA appealed to all residents and indigenes of Nkwanta to exercise maximum restraint and prioritize the prevention of further loss of life, internal displacement, and economic disruption.

The organization believes that a collective effort is necessary to promote peace and stability in the community.

The situation in Nkwanta remains tense, and FOSDA’s call for calm and dialogue serves as an important reminder of the need for peaceful conflict resolution.

The Government and security agencies are expected to take proactive measures to address the underlying issues and prevent further violence.
