The Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA) has expressed its deepest condolences and outrage over the tragic deaths of six young women during the Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra.
The incident has raised serious concerns about the organization, safety measures, and accountability surrounding the recruitment process.
FOSDA in a statement signed by its Executive Director, Mrs. Theodore Williams Anti and issued on 12th November, 2025 in Accra has condemned the circumstances leading to the tragedy, citing a grave failure in safeguarding the lives and dignity of citizens, particularly young people seeking jobs and to serve their nation.
The organization is urging the Ghana Armed Forces, Ministry of Defence, and relevant state agencies to conduct an independent and transparent investigation into the events leading to the deaths.
President John Mahama has confirmed the deaths and announced an immediate suspension of the recruitment exercise.
A Board of Inquiry has been constituted to investigate the incident. The Ghana Armed Forces has also expressed regret and announced plans to enhance safety protocols for future exercises.
FOSDA is calling for systemic reforms prioritizing people’s safety and dignity, and for clear protocols and safety standards to be instituted and enforced in all future recruitment and public service exercises involving large gatherings of citizens, especially youth.
The organization emphasizes that the protection of human life must remain paramount in all state and institutional activities.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage and calls for accountability, with many demanding justice and assurance that such preventable tragedies will never occur again.
FOSDA extends its heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families and communities, standing in solidarity with them and with all Ghanaians demanding justice and accountability.
