The historic fifth Pan-African Congress marked a crucial milestone, celebrating 80 years of advocating for African unity and positive change.

Held on November 18th 2025, in Accra, the event gathered delegates from across Africa and the diaspora to reaffirm their dedication to creating an Africa that honors its rich heritage.

Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama, a key speaker, highlighted the importance of African economic independence, technological progress, and fairer global trade. He emphasized leveraging the continent’s abundant resources and youthful population to foster growth.

Mahama also pointed out that Africa’s natural wealth and human capital should translate into greater global influence, while addressing ongoing issues like unemployment, inadequate education, and exclusion from opportunities.

He stressed that climate justice and technological sovereignty are vital, urging African nations to collaborate in overcoming shared challenges and building a more prosperous, equitable future.

His call for unity was echoed by Ghana’s recent pledge to support Jamaica with aid such as engineers, masons, and carpenters to assist relief efforts and provide shelter materials.

The conference facilitated discussions on strengthening African unity, economic integration, and collective problem-solving. The African Continental Free Trade Area was spotlighted as a key initiative to enhance intra-African trade and growth. Mahama’s leadership has also been influential in shaping the AU’s reparations focus on education, cultural heritage, and economic empowerment.

Attendees included prominent figures like former AU Commission Chairperson Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa.

The gathering was a pivotal moment for African leaders to review progress, confront challenges, and plan the future.

Mahama’s appeals for unity and economic change resonated with delegates, who committed anew to building an Africa that truly respects its heritage.
