Mavis Adjei-Kwaa, the newly appointed Executive Secretary of the Ghana International Trade Commission (GITC), has pledged her commitment to running an open administration that will maximize the Commission’s potential.
She believes this approach will enhance President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of rejuvenating Ghana.
“I commit to being a servant leader who is open to new ideas, dedicated to transparency, and steadfast in my duties,” she stated.
Madam Mavis Adjei-Kwaa made these remarks during her engagement with the staff and management of GITC at a welcome ceremony held on Monday, April 14, 2025.
In her speech, she expressed gratitude to the President for the opportunity to serve in such an important role during a time of rapidly changing global trade dynamics.
While acknowledging the challenges that lie ahead, she is optimistic that through the collective efforts of the staff and management, the Commission can fulfill its vital role in promoting fair trade, safeguarding local industries, and aligning trade policies with the national development agenda.
Some of the challenges identified include investigating trade remedy cases, enforcing trade defense mechanisms, and building institutional capacity.
Madam Mavis Adjei-Kwaa emphasized the importance of collaboration with Commission members, staff, stakeholders, and partners from the government, industry, civil society, and the international community.
The Ghana International Trade Commission, established under the GITC Act 2016 (Act 926), aims to regulate Ghana’s international trade in accordance with the rules and regulations of the World Trade Organization and related matters.
The Commission also seeks to promote the overall welfare of industries in Ghana by providing policy advice to the government on issues affecting trade and industry.
As the Executive Secretary, Madam Mavis Adjei-Kwaa will head the Secretariat of the Commission and serve as the Secretary to the yet-to-be-formed Governing Board.
