The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ayawaso North Municipal Assembly, Mr Mohammed Zakari has called on parents to prioritise education in the upbringing of their children since government have invested massively in teaching and infrastructural development in the education sectors across the country.
“As part of the strategies and initiatives by Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service, government have introduced the Free Senior High School, School Feeding Programme among others as part of the drive to enhance education across the country”, he said.
Mr. Zakari was speaking at the 65th Independence Day anniversary celebration on the theme: “Working Together, Bouncing Back Better” at the Unity Cluster of Schools Park at Kotobabi, a suburb of Accra with 14 schools in attendance.

According to him, government have put in place measures and mechanisms to scale up education to a new level growth and development hence children in every educational endeavour must be committed and study hard to enable them become the future leaders of the governance of the country.
He therefore advised pupils and students to refrain from social vices and peer pressure and focus on teaching and learning from their teachers, adding that “this is the time to unearth their destiny and potentials in their respective lives towards the future”.
The Municipal Chief Executive urged the citizenry to collectively work in peace and harmony devoid of politics.
Adding that, it is this regard that the country will attain its socio-economic growth and development towards nation building and however urged all to contribute their quota to support the governance of the country in building a healthy nation.

“The Covid-19 have impacted negatively on the economy of the country but government have put in place the requisite policies and programmes to live up to the challenging effects of the pandemic”, he said.
He further said, Ghanaians must still observe the necessary protocols to curb the spread of the disease.
Therefore he urged the citizenry within the assembly to engage the authorities for their needs and challenges to be adequately addressed and explained however that their doors are always open to find amicable solutions to issues.
For his part, the Director of Education for the Ayawaso North Municipality, Mr. Philip Aidoo called on pupils and students to use the anniversary celebration of the Independence Day to reflect on their academic works and studies to enable them become future professionals in transforming the country.

He advised all to take their studies serious and pointed out that education will excel them in every life’s endeavour, adding that they must not hesitate to engage their teachers when having a challenge as well as problems.
The occasion was graced with poetry recitals, cultural display, drama, music, among others with Accra Girls Senior High School emerging as the winner of the parade as Kotobabi ‘13’ Junior High School took the first position, with Unity JHS and Francis Xavier JHS taking 2nd and 3rd respectively at the JHS level receiving trophies and certificates.
