According to the President of the Republic, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, healthy life of the ordinary citizen is his most priority as the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana.
To him, government’s efforts to tackle the country’s waste problems is to ensure that citizens are always in a good health to go about their various duties as they contribute to development and growth of the economy.
President Akufo-Addo made these remarks at the Sod-Cutting Ceremony for the construction of Oti Solid Waste Treatment Facility at Dambai to climax his two-day working tour of Oti Region.
Speaking to the teeming crowd admist a heay rainfall , the President explained that, the numerous projects undertaken nationwide in relation to tackling waste issues are aimed at ensuring good health of the nation.
“The various projects that I am here to initiate in this region were essential and I tell you that the development projects that are ahead of the region in the years ahead will come gidigidigidi…” he asserted.
Noting that, the construction of the facility is a Government of Ghana and Jospong Group of Companies partnership programme.
This collaboration he noted indicates that, his government is ever ready and willing to support any citizen of the country, whose aim is to help the nation to develop through their efforts.
With all the developmental projects, the region had so far enjoyed, the President assured the people of Dambai and Oti at large that, they won’t be left out in any projects that would help the nation develop adding “you will have whatever that is due you.”
He therefore urged the people of the region to vote massively for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming general elections on 7th December 2020 as well as all the eight Parliamentary Candidates (PCs) in the region.
“Just as you voted for me in 2016 because of my promises, you would all attest to the fact that I delivered on all my promises and expect you all to vote ‘boom’ ‘boom’ for people to know i have delivered”, he claimed.
On his part, Mr Michael Yaw Gyato, Deputy Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources acknowledged that, the government under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo have spanned development projects across the entire region.
To this effect, Mr. Gyato who is also one of the eight Parliamentary Candidates in the Region called on the electorates to endorse the President and his candidature to continue and complete all the projects he has initiated.
Taking his turn, Dr Joseph Siaw Agyepong, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Zoomlion Limited, noted the siting of the facility would bring development as well as offer employment to the youth of the region.
Revealing that, the facility would be ready in four months and will create 75 direct and 250 indirect jobs for the youth.
The project he said is a priority of President Akufo-Addo in his quest to make Ghana one of the cleanest Country in Africa.
He later expressed his commitment to finish the project within the stipulated four- month period.
According to him, when completed, the plant will receive waste from areas including Dambai, Biakoye, Jasikan, Krachi East and West among others.
Nana Mprah Besemuna III, President of Oti Regional House of Chiefs and President of Krachi Traditional Council, noted that if not for the President, we would not have seen the creation of this region.
“Others may be created, but not ours. I urge all of us not to forget him and if there is any reward, we have to give him, let us do it wholeheartedly.”
He said ‘people that remember you, when they have just a little, will not forget you, when they have it in abundance.’
President Akufo-Addo, who met the members of the Oti Region House of Chiefs, also cut sod for the construction of the Oti Regional Directorate of the Youth Employment Agency.
The President was accompanied by the Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah, Deputy Sanitation and Water Resources Minister, who is also the Minister for Krachi East, Michael Yao Gyato, Engineer Kwabena Agyapong, Minister of Regional Reorganisation and Development and the MP for Okere, Dan Botwe, and Oti Regional Minister, Nana Kofi Owusu Yeboah.
