Four Cameroonian individuals, 2 men and 2 women, whose identity have been kept for security reasons, suspected to be engaging in human trafficking have been arrested by the Kokrobite District Police Command.

One of the four, who is suspected to be the mastermind, was intercepted transporting 9 children packed in a taxi cab’s boot to an unknown location.

The others, including her alleged husband were picked up later at their residence upon search by the Police.

According to Superintendent Mike Baah, Director of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Ghana Police Service who led the operation, a Police dispatch rider intercepted the Opel Vectra taxi cab, with registration number BA 1298 – X around 9pm of Friday March 12th, 2021 on the Kokrobite /Tuba road, after suspecting foul play.

According to him, the suspect gave conflicting answers to the queries of the dispatch rider and the Kokrobite Youth Leader, Augustine Nii Quaye, who had arrived, after he was informed of the happenings.

The suspect was sent to the station together with the children, aged between 3 and 12 years.

A search by the Police and media personnel suggested that, those in the plush 3 storey mansion the suspects reside had been hurriedly cleared to avoid traces, however lots of children school uniforms were found in poorly kept rooms, also laptops and others.

The prime suspect, gave conflicting answers as to her job, at a point saying she is a medical doctor, and another time, a timber merchant.

One of the suspects upon interrogation mentioned that, the mansion belonged to the prime suspect, but when quizzed, she rather indicated that the house was rented at GH¢5,000.00 monthly.

The children are immediately under the care of the Kokrobite District Police Command pending further investigations.

Nii Ofei III, Divisional Chief of Kokrobite traditional area expressed shock at the incident, since it is the first time happening.

He warned criminals and potential ones to be weary of the area deity, who would uncover any crime and wrongdoing, adding that it is uncompromising of crime.

Augustine Nii Quaye, Divisional Youth Leader of Kokrobite on his part called on authorities to bring the suspects to book and ensure swift justice.
